In the new movie significant otherA young couple embark on a seemingly harmless outing, but thanks to writers/directors Dan Burke and Robert Olsen, this journey quickly goes from stressful to stressful to downright terrifying. The film’s path ends with the opposite of the experience of embarking on an unexpected journey, where every time the viewer turns a corner, we are treated to a frightening new discovery. Burke recalls to ComicBook.com about the location of the movie: “We had a very specific idea of what we wanted the jungle to feel. Although the movie takes place in this very vast open air, in many ways it is still one location.” . “And so, you have the same challenge as with a limited site movie about site fatigue, or audience boredom looking at four white walls, or in this case, a group of trees. And so we knew we needed a beautiful, old-growth forest that also contains Enough space between the trees to actually be able to effectively increase production, as well as diversity within that, so we can actually express to viewers about different locations within an hour’s radius of Portland.And then, obviously, the coast is that incredibly dramatic terrain and appearance. So, yeah, it would definitely be somewhere along the Pacific… It was either Oregon or Washington or Vancouver, but Portland was our first choice, and that’s where my real estate is.”
Olsen added, “We’re from the East Coast, and the woods there are disgusting. You go into the woods around Portland, and you say, ‘This is Star Wars.'” “In some of the shots, we were worried that people would think clusters would be built because of how perfect the moss is on the trees and things like that, and you have the inherent thrill of the subduction zone off the coast, so there could be a giant tsunami at any moment.”
significant other It follows a young couple (Maika Monroe & Jake Lacy) who take a remote backpacking trip across the Pacific Northwest, but things take a dark turn when they realize they may not be alone.
While there are amusing elements that are straightforward horror, the movie also offers real laughs and close scrutiny of certain sequences to keep audiences alert.
“It has never been and never will be our goal, with any of our films, to stay straight and tight with a certain genre. It’s in our nature to always have some moves and twists and turns and let the story dictate the tone in some ways,” Burke detailed on navigating those themes. And that’s the tricky part, but obviously the hostile force in this movie has different goals than the other movies, perhaps. Sometimes the enemy force’s goal is something simple, like killing the hero or something. Our goal is completely different. And so, when you actually start Looking under the hood, the tone should follow that. It becomes a very strange dynamic between heroes and antagonists, somewhere in the back half of the film. You almost need to laugh at the absurdity of it, or at least allow yourself to get… let the tone express To the viewer, it’s okay to feel, “Holy sh-t. I don’t even know what I would think if I were in her place. “This way, we knew we would weave through different color cues once all the cards were on the table.”
Just like the film balancing different tones, it also explores more about the human condition and our desire to connect with others, which was a core theme in the development process.
“I think that was intentional from the start. I think one of the things we really wanted to explore was how Ruth, in not necessarily wanting to get married right now, expresses a worldview that is sometimes unacceptable; least in our society, that you will get married,” Olsen said. ‘You’re like, ‘You’re about to turn… well, you’re getting married soon, right?’ “And how hard it is to escape from those pre-established societal notions. There is no way to get away from them.”
Burke echoed what he said, “But it was cute, because seeing that was super confirmation that it was actually a story worth exploring. This woman in this movie, there has to be enough oxygen in the room to have her worldview. But we can tell the world He doesn’t necessarily want that. Well, that was the point, that layer has been around since the beginning. And that was actually, it was very basic. That’s what we built on.”
After having several small projects under their belts, the couple revealed the most well-known properties they’d like to dive into.
“There is a different couple… there was Friday 13 – Or I’m sorry Nightmare on Alam Street Something we’ve been fighting about for a while,” Olsen confirmed.
Burke added, “I think outright horror isn’t necessarily our goal. Like I said, it’s usually something next to that. We have quite the killer.” dragon eyes This book is Stephen King. So, tweet Stephen King if you want that to happen.”
The director also noted, “And then this is probably a little more relevant because we already know that book rights are being discussed now, but never ending story It would be really fun to be able to reboot. This sounds like something that’s going to be right up our alley.”
